Presentation at 6 p.m., CDT

Cairo High School – 4201 Sycamore Street, Cairo, IL

Join us on Thursday, July 11, at Cairo High School for our next public meeting! At the meeting, we’ll announce the selected bridge type, show renderings of the future bridge, and have a Right of Way showing for affected property owners. The meeting will include an Open House with display boards as well as a formal presentation at 6 p.m. Staff from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and members of the project team will be available to answer your questions about the project.

The purpose of the Citizens Advisory Group/Environmental Justice (CAG/EJ) is to provide a direct line of communication between local community members and project development parties to discuss potential impacts to local businesses, low income and minority communities, and values natural, environmental, cultural, agricultural, and river transportation resources in the area.

During these meetings, measurements of environmental impacts, human environmental impacts, and environmental impacts on historic properties were considered and options discussed. Several CAG/EJ meetings have been held with meeting notes available below.

Environmental Documents

In March 2022, the project completed a major milestone with the signing of the environmental document. The environmental studies took years to complete and satisfy the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements as well as all necessary federal, state, and local regulatory processes. The document was approved as a KYTC Categorial Exclusion Level 3 (CE-3).

The signed document signifies approval of the preferred alternative for the project, comprised of the preferred alignment for the new bridge and associated improvements. The preferred alternative includes the eventual closure of the existing bridge.

The full document and appendices are available for download here.
